RE: DATACENTER: Rack spacing
Also, I would recommend adhereing to OSHA and the disabilities act standards
for work spaces because more people work in datacenters then when the NEBS
and NEC standards were published....I think the min is 4 feet of clearance
for wheel chairs, etc, but take into account the equipment depth as
indicated below. I would even follow this in the wiring/exhaust aisles (back
to back racks alternating w/ forward to foward for maintenance).
thanks

Subject: RE: DATACENTER: Rack spacing
The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires a 3 foot access space in front
of electrical equipment. This is measured from the front of the enclosure
not from the rack. When laying out spaces be aware of the depth of the
equipment that will be mounted in the rack. This requirement also applies
to the back of equipment that has rear access.
Providing additional space when planning (e.g. 4 feet between equipment)
will allow personnel adequate space to work without accidentally hitting or
dislodging other equipment or cables while working.

Subject: DATACENTER: Rack spacing
Anyone using a standard rack spacing i.e. front to back?
I've never really been able to pin that down and seem to use
different numbers every time I do this. I'm looking at
open racks, 19" and 23" with 6" vertical cable management between
each.
This time, I came up with 3' from walls, 5' front/front and 4'3 back.
