-48vdc is not only a bit safer to humans, but because of its negative
charge it also helps avoid corrosion (cathodic protection), and of
course any DC power system even further reduces EMI caused by AC
circuits.

I'm not sure the proliferaton of DC/DC converters in -48vdc power
supplies for modern digital equipment helps reduce RFI though!  ;-)
