I should clarify this. When it comes down to power utilization the
common term is wattage. It is the same term for both DC and AC and means
the same thing. Basically, how much heat can it generate. The only
complicating factor, wrt AC power, is the means of determination. In all
cases, a watt is a watt and a BTU is a BTU.
For purely resistive circuts;
(Vrms * Irms) = (Vdc * Idc) = P, in watts.
(P * 3.413) = BTU/hr
