Re: [mob] Geek Vacations

etime? What's that :-P

I'm off for Hong Kong in January with some folks, but I am really thinking Spain beckons me in October/November 2004... my interest in Spain is more culinary/cultural, tho, not geeky.

The HK deal I got was at www.go-today.com -- lots of great packages for reasonably low cost.

Went to NYC this summer; was awesome. Can't recommend it enough.

You know, I'm terminally fascinated by is the tube in London. Never been, want to go. I really REALLY wanna go exploring the abandoned subway stops. I found one in NYC but alas could not get there from here. :-) There is a link about dead tube stops on the web, it may well have made its way to the mob already, but it was REALLY intriguing.

Well, as someone who has no etime, how about something a little closer and
cheaper.

Washington DC or New York would make good choices. Washington has all the
fun government stuff, visit the White House (Need lots of planning for
that), Capitol, NSA Crypto Muesum, FBI, etc. And with this group I'd
suspect a free vacation to Cuba may also be included.

NY has lots of urban spellunking, Nat Hist mueseum, and much other general
mischief that Robbie could enlighten us on.

Best of all it doesn't require getting on an Airplane.

I've had this idea for a while and recently I've started talking about it with other people. Why not go on a trip with friends to some strange or not-so-strange place? Even in the not-so-strange places like Paris there are interesting things we could do that are off the beaten path such as explore the portions of the catacombs that are closed to the public, etc.

Some of the locations I've thought of:

-Iceland music festival (Iceland Airwaves)
http://www.icelandairwaves.com/

-Timbuktu / Sahara / Music Festival in the Desert
http://mali-music.com/Cat/CatF/FestivalDesert.htm

-Someplace in Europe
-Paris with side exploration of closed catacombs, etc.
	-elsewhere

Anyone up for something like this in the future? With my school schedule I couldn't do this anytime soon, but it's something to think about..
