I thought that was the case. I remember being told a long time ago that
stores could play the "oops sorry nutroll" because it was being done to
benifit them. I still believe that if you leave something with a store
that needs these types of policies it's not a good place to shop. When I'm
confronted with it and I ask why. If I get the thief speel. I usually
leave. The best retort I've found to wipe that smug "I guess I told you"
expression off the clerks face has been "How do I know you're not a
thief?" It seem like it makes them as pissed as I am at the moment.
Especially when look down your nose at them like they're slim.

I am looking for a criss-cross shredder. What kind do you have? Was it
very expensive? What your talking about happened to me last year. I have
not trown anything with my name on it for a while now.
