Kernel 1.1.81

Hello,
I've just made kernel 1.1.81 and now my cd rom drives wont
mount. I had been at 1.1.18 and they worked fine. Is there a
change in the kernel (or previous ones) that handle CDROM drives
differently then the 1.1.18 I had running?
My system config is:
486 /66 32 meg ram
1542 adaptec with Linux on /dev/sda1
at 1.1.18 the cd's were at /dev/sr0 and /dev/sr1
Any help would be appreciated. TNX
