[ale] XWindow Programing

I'd like to begin programing in XWindows.  I am pretty good with c and I understand c++.  I've
looked at the xview stuff but it's too ugly to interest me.  I've found some information about Xt
which looks promising but I can't find any tutorials or information for the beginning X programmer.
Could anybody make some suggestions as to were to get started.
