[ale] Kernel Composition

I was trying to compile someone's kernel today, and I ran across this
strange situation. Please read:

I set the symlinks:
cd /usr/include
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 asm
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/linux linux
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/scsi scsi

Then, i returned to /usr/src/linux, and continued with a 'make
mrproper' and at the very end it gave me this:

rm -f include/asm
rm: include/asm: is a directory
make: *** [mrproper] Error 1

When I try to continue with 'make menuconfig', it gives me the same
error. Any thoughts?
