[ale] Man pages as a user

Hello,

   I have a problem accessing the man pages as a regular
old user that has bedeviled me for a while. I have a plain
jane RH6.0 box. I can access the man pages as root
(e.g. 'man ls'), but when I try it as a user it can't find
the man pages.
   I checked the manpath in /usr/etc (I think that's the
location), but it looks fine. Does anybody have any
guidance about what I should check?
