[ale] Modem: internal or external?

I want to buy a modem. Are there any problems when installing an internal PCI
modem on Linux? Or maybe I should invest money in an external modem? There are
some internal modems that work only in Windows (I personally have such) and I
don't want to buy another of that type. So if you tell me what modem I should
buy (around  or less than $50) it would be nice.
