RedHat (for example) can be installed over the net; I've done it many times
(although it works better when I have a local FTP source).
You can download and rawrite the two 1.44 floppy images, boot the install
and switch to the PCMCIA root and select your favorite FTP site as the
install source.
Find a suitable mirror
http://www.redhat.com/download/mirror.html
then from directory redhat-6.0/i386/images download
bootnet.img
pcmcia.img
rawrite/dd these to floppy, boot the bootnet floppy and follow the
instructions...
