[ale] Hooking up a cable modem

If I have the DNS name, IP address, Subdomain, the 
primary and secondary DNS, the gateway, and the net mask for my @Home Cable 
modem service, then how do I set up the service.?? All of the advice I've 
tried so far has failed.?? Can anyone help me, please??? I am very 
inexperienced with Linux so be as thorough as possible.
