I've got Starband BUT it's the dual internal PCI card-version, not the USB
modem-version.
It appears that the initialization is a one-time deal that's run during
initial installation only. (I could be wrong.) Why not just borrow
somebody's Win98 notebook for a day to set it up? It's a small price to pay
for having a reliable Linux gateway. I wish I had that option! The WinME
box locks up every couple days and the proxy/dhcp software, Winproxy, has to
be restarted almost daily because it just stops working. Other than that,
it's great (I keep telling myself that, since it's the only high-speed
option available to me in rural Kennesaw)-- but I'd still rather have a
Linux gateway. If the price were simply to borrow a '98 notebook for an
afternoon, I'd do it!
