We should all care. IRC was once a great system for comunicating outside
the usual news channels. Now--like USENET--it seems to be falling to the
lowest common denominator. All open systems seem vulnerable. When I
started using Gnutella it was a great idea. But now, it is more spam and
porno than useful files. It almost seems like anything left open will be
invaded and dragged down by the sleazebags. It isn't unthinkable that
the same types could do great harm to Linux. They are already making
life less pleasant on this list by sending in useless spam.
