[ale] USB keyboard support in kernel

I have created a boot disk with no modules.  I've compiled everything I
need in the kernel.  This is a self contained linux system on floppy.  I
see the kernel stating that it sees my USB hub and my keyboard but the
keyboard does not work.  I have created a /dev/input with all the
correct modules.  Am I missing something?
