Yup. If you don't want something deleted:
a) keep a backup copy of it,
or more directly,
b) don't tell the system to delete it.
If you constantly find yourself doing `b', then you need to
find one of those newbie-crutch replacements for rm which move things
to a `Trash' folder before they're really unlinked. Or use a GUI file
manager (konqueror, nautilus) which does the same.
Another related recent anectdote from an IRC acquaintance:
There was much muttering and questioning of the reliability of
PostgreSQL because someone dropped a database on a production system
which wasn't being backed up at all. Rather than worrying that
they're not backing up crucial data they choose to place the blame on
the software being used.
