[ale] clock snafu

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. What worked was going
with the flow: Linux wanted to start from UTC so I set the BIOS
to report the time as UTC, went back into the clock set routine
and told it that the BIOS was reporting UTC and presto, Linux
now boots with the clock correctly set.
