[ale] printing envelopes ?

Has anyone done any envelope printing from a linux box?  The envelopes 
are PDF files (we could easily use PS or something else, if that would 
be a better solution).  

I'm using lpr and I'm wondering if I have any control over the printer 
and what tray the the paper (envelop) is taken from and output to.  Can 
Lpr access specific printer trays or anything like that?

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
