[ale] PPPOE vs TCPIP

Hi,

I've recently had to change ISPs.  My new provider (earthlink)
does ADSL using PPPOE instead of straight TCP/IP.  What are the
effects of this?  Why do they do this, and can it have any
negative impact on me?
