[ale] X frame buffer

I'm trying to get X to work using the framebuffer
driver (fbdev) only.  The current version (4.1.0) of X
has a bug that only allows 8bpp with my chipset, so
non-accelerated X with the framebuffer is the only
option to get 16bpp.

I keep getting a "No Screens Found" error.  Does
anyone know of any good reference about using the
framebuffer drivers?  Or does anyone use it
personally?
