I don't think it's an acronym.  I think it was a "play on words" type thing.  A-OS, B-OS, C-OS (1st, 2nd, 3rd OSes) (PreperationH...what happened to A-G?)

Did anyone notice that Be Inc has basically gone out of business, selling all it's assets to Palm Inc?
bebits.com and betips.net are still around, so are some of the ftp.be.com mirrors (http://www.betips.net/chunga.php?ID=718)
