This is slightly off topic but has a little to do with LINUX. I have been
tasked with looking into the power management features in server systems. I
have read on ACPI from acpi.info and also information on the AMD MP Model 6
Processor. The AMD processor supports ACPI 1.0b and 2.0. ACPI provides an
interface for operating systems. LINUX has limited ACPI support.
My question is: Do processors automatically use power management without using
ACPI? Does it automagically go from Halt State from working state?
THe ACPI specification has a lot of information but can't find anything about
this. And the AMD spec talks about it a lot but I am confussed if it needs
ACPI support in the BIOS?
Regards,
J
