[ale] Email questions

I am running Mandrake 8.2.  While I don't use the Linux
server for much other than an internet server/firewall.  I
would like for it to do some email stuff.  The best question
I can come up with is.  Where should I start?  Sendmail???
I would like the server to be able to email the root with
errors but also I would like to send and receive email on an
already existing account through my ISP.
