You are correct. There is no reason that an OS installation should
ever crash, given properly-functioning hardware.
That said, I'll further state that I've *never*, in ten years of Linux
use, seen such a thing happen. Without fail, serious problems on my
Linux boxen have been traceable to hardware failure.
