[ale] Gaim working again

During Switchboard at the last ALE meeting I complained that Gaim and 
.Xclients had stopped working.  I just wanted to let y'all know that I've 
fixed Gaim.

I forgot that I had also changed my environment to have "http_proxy" and 
"https_proxy" environment variables.  Gaim picked those up and tried to 
use them, but they didn't work.  Turning off proxying in gaim solved that 
problem.

So, can anyone see how having those variables might make my .Xclients no 
longer exec?  I can't.
