[ale] RH8.0 Num Lock on Bootup

I know this thread has been discussed here before but I couldn't find it
in the archives. 

How do you get RH8.0 (with GNOME desktop) to turn on num lock on boot
up? 

I found the below script on redhat.com and tried adding it to rc.local
but, it didn't help:

do
        setleds +num < /dev/tty$t > /dev/null
done
</script>
