[ale] IBM java virtual machines

Got the fonts issue resolved.  Zend ships with an old jre and uses that if
you don't change the ZDE.lax config file.  Also solved a number of other
issues.

I'm still curious as to what benefits are gained, if any, by using the IBM
jvms.
