[ale] KDE screensaver woes

Hi folks, 

I just started using KDE in RH 8.0 and I am having screensaver issues. 
No matter what screensaver I choose from the Control Center, it always
comes up as blank screen when the wait time elapses.  I can run them
from the konsole, like kmatrix.kss, but none of them work in the
screensaver mode.  Has anyone else seen this?
