[ale] SuSE 8.2, OpenOffice, JRE1.x

I have run into the same issue. Further, getting Java to work with the browser 
has stumped me.  It is as if Suse has something against Java.

When I install Suse via FTP, Yast hits me with 1 error. Cannot install Open 
Office because JRE is not there. I must select "don't install OpenOffice."

I do have Java working on Suse 8.2, but getting Suse's programs to use Java 
has eluded me.
