The newest revs include both CDE and Gnome, but default to CDE. Earlier 
releases of 9 only included CDE, and you had to download Gnome 2.0 (yeah, 
2.0. Sun moves slowly) from Sun.

The standard problem with Solaris/x86 (other than a lack of performance ;-) 
is always hardware support. Check the list of supported hardware closely
