For any new installation, DON'T do halon! There are lots of alternatives --
FM200, Inergen, Argonite, etc. -- which don't have all the environmental /
health risks of halon. Which one you want depends on your constraints (how
much room you have for the storage, how close the storage is to the machine
room, etc.)....
For existing halon installations, 3M makes a suppressant gas (Novec
something-or-other) which can replace the halon w/o having to change
infrastructure....
