[ale] OT: Well some of it. THE PAIN OF DIAL-UP

Well,  MY DSL is with earthsink is down again.  Tech support wants me to 
call Bellsouth to do a NID check and then call them back once that is 
done.   I have been down for a week now.   I was trying to set up my 
Linux box to do some shared internet access over dailup.  Yeah, I know 
SLOW.    but I can't remember the right iptable commands.   I can't get 
forwarding to work.  HELP!!


Now the real pain.  I am 16000+ feet from the C.O.   Speakeasy can't 
provide me with aDSL broadband.  I was so looking forward to 1.5/384.  I 
didn't even care that it was going to cost more. The service and 
features were more than make up for it.  So far, I have only been 
offered, (online) the T1 or IDSL.   T1 cost WAY to much and the IDSL is 
only 144 Kbps.  I hope they come up with something better  or a good 
offer on a house next to the C.O.
