Just another thought on this problem. This is a Debian Sarge system
running kernel 2.6.8 on an Asus A7n8x motherboard. The only ide module I
see loading is the ide-core module. Does this module support the nForce2
chipset? The only reference to the ide system in /var/log/messages is:

c 7 13:27:32 localhost kernel: Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver
Revision: 7.00alpha2
Dec 7 13:27:32 localhost kernel: ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed
for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx

In the bios I can see the cdrom drive identified correctly as a ATA 33
Plextor DVD. Just wanting to check out the easy fixes before swapping
drives, etc.

Thanks All,

Jim Seymour
