I used to use IM fairly regularly. You just need to find out from friends and 
relatives if they have a screen name. One way to do that is to send your 
screen name to them. Once you know a few, put them in your buddy list so 
you'll be notified when they're online. I know AOL has its own chat rooms for 
AIM as well, but I never used those. Anyway, IM can be nice for impromptu 
conversations. Like bumping into somebody you know, unexpectedly on the 
street.
