If you like KDE, then I really recommend that you grab the latest kde from
<a rel="nofollow" href="ftp://apt.us.kde-redhat.org/linux/kde-redhat/apt/";>ftp://apt.us.kde-redhat.org/linux/kde-redhat/apt/
I've been using it on RH 9 and it is very nice.

> > I have done that since Gnome got hosed by the glibc broken
> > update via RHN that happened last November. The KDE under
> > RH is not full KDE or at least not what I am used to. I've
> > got it working okay, but hope to rebuild to something
> > better. Mainly I miss the configuration functionality that
> > has been gutted out. Tabbed shells aren't as nice as under
> > the normal KDE. It is better to me than a hosed Gnome
> > though. ;-)
> >
> > I believe on the main login window if KDE was installed you
> > get the option there to switch between failsafe, gnome, and KDE.

> > > Walter - Red Hat has a utility _somewhere_ in the menus to switch the
> > > default desktop for the user. Using the utility, change the desktop to
> > > KDE, log out or restart your X session, and the desktop should be
> > > changed. I'm assuming that KDE was installed of course.
> > >
> > > Hope this helps.

> > >>Question, if one is running redhat and gnome desktop, can one just
> > >>remove gnome and put in kde without losing all the setup parameters on
> > >>the system or reinstalling the whole os? I seem to see many folks here
> > >>and elsewhere liking kde better than gnome and would like to try it.

> > >>>> I heartily recommend an upgrade to anyone using one of the older
> > >>>> versions. If you are a redhat user, the sourceforge redhat/kde
> > >>>> project files work well for me <<a rel="nofollow" href="http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/";>http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/>.
> > >>>> They are in the testing tiectories, but have been quite stable for
> > >>>> me. And they supply rpms for everything since 7.3, which is pretty
> > >>>> cool.
> > >>>
> > >>>This new release offers the best desktop environment I've used on any
> > >>>platform. The biggest problem with KDE at the moment is trying to
> > >>> unpack everything it can do. I can do 90% of what I do on the
> > >>> computer either in Kontact or Konqueror. Konqueror has been vastly
> > >>> improved by the Safari development effort. If it weren't for some
> > >>> Javascript weirdness in it, I would even trash Mozilla. The
> > >>> interactive spell-checking is something no other desktop offers. It's
> > >>> great to have spell-checking when you're filling in forms on Web
> > >>> sites--especially if you're applying for a job! Plus, I got a Google
> > >>> search bar in Konqueror now that I got from a CVS version. And KDE is
> > >>> faster than it used to be too. The Linux experience has never been
> > >>> better for me. And if you don't have Amarok, get it. It's one of the
> > >>> best mp3 players around. It made me dump Xmms.
