It may be a USB 1.0 connection so a 2.0 card won't help the speed. I
have seen that plugging a 1.0 device into a 2.0 connection will bring
ALL of the 2.0 devices down to 1.0 speeds on that circuit.
Sad, but expected. My desktop machine has a separate 1.0 circuit for all
of my old stuff (everything but the Epson scanner)
BTW, Epson photo 2400 is a great gizmo! XSane knows the device and it
support negative scanning with selectable negative makers (Kodak, Fuji,
etc).
