cp menu.lst menu.lst.orig

Just to be on the safe side.  Or, when booting you can type 
in the command at the boot prompt
hdc=ide-scsi

The cdrecord --checkdrive /dev/scd0 is probably what should 
have been written by me in the last email.  The cdrecord 
-scanbus doesn't need any device specified.
