[ale] OT: technology is wonderful

I've had this Siemens cordless phone for about 4 years now.  I dropped 
the bloody thing on the concrete floor the other day and it literally 
broke into pieces.  I picked up all the pieces and place them in a pile 
on my desk.  This afternoon, I heard a familiar beep, which that phone 
puts out when the batteries need charging.  Sure enough, IT'S ALIVE.
