[ale] LCD Monitor (Viewsonic VX-900)

Am beating my head against the wall....
Have  an LCD monitor capable of 1280x1024 resolution
but can't get it to display anything better than 800x600 in RedHat Fedora
XF86Config's H = 30.0 - 82.0  V= 50.0 - 75.0
I get a "no Signal" and "Out of Range" warning message from the monitor
Viewsonic has confirmed the correct H and V settings.
Doesn't work with either of the video connectors on my Matrox G550.
Matters not 16 or 24 bit depth. I hate to see it relegated to a Windows 
machine.
Any ideas, anyone?
