are you using debian? I think alien is a good solution for rpms and I'm
pretty sure it handles dependencies. On RH I *think* you can use alien to
convert a .rpm to a .deb file and then use apt-rpm.
The best solution, though, is to find a .deb file somewhere, which is what
I've always managed to do.
