[ale] Kwrite encoding problems

Occasionally, when trying to save something copied into Kwrite, I get:

"The document could not be saved, as the selected encoding cannot encode every 
unicode character in it. If you are unsure of which encoding to use, try 
UTF-8 or UTF-16."

This usually happens when copying from Firefox.  I know, I should use the 
"copy as plain text" extension, but in any case, is there a workaround for 
this with kwrite? 

It won't save it even after setting the encoding to UTF-8 or UTF-16
