As others have suggested, try a live linux cd like knoppix or some other 
distribution to see if it can configure the video card. 

If you are interested in trying another distribution for install, I recommend 
Mandrake, it has good hardware detection, and a X config tool you can run 
from the command prompt.  Suse may have this also, I'm not familiar with it. 

If you try Mandrake Move, the Mandrake live CD, it should be a good indication 
whether mandrake can figure out your video card.
