No need to do that. Every system I've seen since the P2 has BIOS and chipset
support to use USB keyboards before booting an OS. The BIOS configures the
system chipset in such a way that it intercepts accesses to the real
keyboard controller and redirects them to the USB keyboard/mouse. From what
I've played around with it, even old old old DOS programs are fooled by it.
