We just went through this on the KDE mailing list. You don't need the 
Autostart folder or a script. Recent versions of KDE have session management. 
If you open Control Center and go to KDE Components, you will find a page for 
Session Management. There is an option there to restore a manually saved 
session on login. This means that all apps you had open when you last saved 
your session will reappear right where they were the next time you log in. It 
remembers desktop, placement, size, everything.
