I forgot one thing:
4) your money also supports corporate adoption and support of Linux. While
some would argue that sponsoring RedHat may produce the next Microsoft, the
fact of the matter is that SOME distribution would have had to go corporate
to have gotten Linux this far. Yes, RH tends to bastardize some of the
software they distribute, but without commercial Linux, the free software
movement would potentially be farther behind.
Fact is: corporate and community Linux need each other. Corporate formalizes
and standardizes, while community innovates. Without either, it would still
be a gimmick.
