Either "tex file.tex" or "latex file.tex" will probably work. The other
variations are not common anymore. There are ways to tell shich you have,
but it is easier just to try them both--only one will work.
The output will be a file names file.dvi. You can convert this to PS with
dvi2ps. I think there is also a dvi2pdf command. I don't recall if you need
to pass in the output file name so check the man pages.
