[ale] Problem with X?

I just recently installed Gentoo on my laptop. I installed xorg and when I
startx the screen displays the very last image displayed before I shutdown
my computer (only for a few seconds), and then it goes to the gray screen
with the watch and then it will load KDM. So, for example, I will usually
see my KDE desktop with whatever files I had open when I shut down. Anyone
know how to get rid of this?
