[ale] Can only login as root user



There could be any number of causes, depending on just what changes you
made.  If you updated your PAM or encryption libraries that might be a
potential cause.

First thing you want to do is check the logs to see if there's some more
detailed info on the failure. Look at /var/log/secure and /var/log/messages,
and see if there's anything logged relating to PAM, encryption/decryption
failures, or similar.

If you're trying a graphical login, you should also try a tty console (or
ssh) login to see if you get different results. Sometimes the graphical
login will fail for non-root users if e.g. you change permissions on /tmp/,
though that should give a different error message.
