[ale] Camserv problem

I am trying to use Camserv to serve a video stream from a bt878 PCI card 
to my LAN with Ubuntu Dapper x86. Here is the error message I am getting:

bb at bb-ubuntu:~$ camserv
camserv v0.5.1 - by Jon Travis (jtravis at p00p.org)
Syntax: camserv <cfg file>
Will try /home/bb/.camserv and /etc/camserv/camserv.cfg
(V4L) mmap: Invalid argument

Can you tell me what the problem is or where to start looking?
Where can I find a log of this?
Camserv looks like a perfect solution for my situation if I can get it 
to work.
