[ale] installing kernel with Aptitude...

I am upgrading Debian and have just read:

using Aptitude, you can install a kernel found
    in the cache with:

        apt-cache search ^kernel-image

When I did the cache search, about 20 kernel
images came up !

Does this mean that, I can 'install' any of them ?

If yes, are they fully installed so that the next time
I reboot they are booted up, or what ?

What is the precise process by which this
kernel installation is obtained, please ?

Guidance in all this legerdemain appreciated :-)
